David Kalmin
Welcome to my bio page! Below you will find background information including my
career, education, Microsoft certification, and some other tidbits.
Software Career Background
I started my software development career in 1999 when I was writing VB 6.0 code,
Visual C++ code and regular old style ASP web applications. Once .Net surfaced around
2003ish I made the jump almost immediately to C# as I saw the coding style of C++
using a framework that included garbage collection and memory management and instantly
knew that .Net and C# was going to be around for a long time. When Team Foundation
Server was released in 2005, I immediately implemented it (ditched SourceSafe) on
the new project I was working on and never looked back, leading me to start my own
business based on TFS 2010. Other notable technologies I have used along the way
include SharePoint, Oracle, BizTalk, SVN, Cruise Control .Net, java, objective C
for iPhone. Currently I specialize in web based and windows applications utilizing
the.Net framework (2.0, 3.5 and 4.0), SQL Server 05/08, testing (unit, mock, load)
and of course, Team Foundation Server.
Microsoft Certified Professional Background
In 2001 I earned my first Microsoft certification by acquiring the Microsoft Certified
Professional (MCP) certification for VB 6.0 and then added another VB 6.0 certification
a short time later. Overtime I have advanced my credentials by earning the Microsoft
Certified Application Developer (MCAD) with C# certification in 2005, Microsoft
Certified Trainer (MCT) in 2010, Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD)
with C# certification in 2011 and Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS)
certification in Visual Studio Team Foundation Server Administration 2010 in early
2011. In 2013 I achieved the MCSD in Application Lifecycle Managemnt.
Education
I graduated from Virginia Tech in 2000 with a B.S. in Management Science and Information
Technology and then earned a M.S. in Management Information Systems from The George
Washington University in 2007.
On a personal note, I grew up in Northern Virginia so I am a die-hard Washington
sports fan (go skins), even though it’s hard to be at times. I stay active by playing
softball, flag football and run the occasional race with my wife. My latest adventure
is starting my own company Drook Technology Inc. to focus on consulting and development
for Microsoft’s Team Foundation Server.
